The new UK Home Office Headquarters building was built under a 27-year PFI Contract by Bouygues (UK) Ltd. dsa ENGINEERING provided the complete M&E and Security design for the Base Building and Fit-Out for the office building and the associated Residential projects.

The office building was designed to an “Excellent” BREEAM rating. The office building incorporates highly robust mechanical and electrical systems and security systems, to ensure that the UK Government operated during emergencies. The project was completed in January 2005.

This included a 4,000 kVA emergency generator system and separate 24-hour cooling systems to serve the 2 No. 4,000 ft² comms rooms, hub rooms and critical areas.

The building included a central “street” that communicated between the 5 building wings, atria and link bridges, a 450-cover kitchen / dining facility, gym / recreation area, conferencing centre, private Ministers’ offices, open plan offices, auditorium and press area.
